Comedians have been using the easy joke for years to dis Facebook. “You don’t really have 600 friends!” And there’s a reality to this. So, it begs the question whether social networks are going to get bigger…or smaller.
Twitter has tried to segregate smaller groups with Twitter lists. Facebook has Facebook groups. Group texting apps have come out as well – so that smaller groups can engage in “reply all” texting conversations. Many companies and departments are using a Skype group channel as their local intranet chat messaging tool.
And it’s these small social networks that very well may prove the most valuable in the future. But, I’m not sure exactly what they’re going to look like.
