Recently, there has been a lot of talk about Twitter starting their very own news service. But, if you ask Twitter’s Matt Graves, he’ll tell you “It already exists — it’s called Twitter.”
The rumors had started from a Reuters interview of Twitter co-founder Biz Stone who talked about partnering with different news organizations. And it brings up an interesting point. Does it make sense for Twitter to create a Twitter news service, implying that theirs, in itself, is not one? After all, you can follow individual news networks on Twitter along with your friends and other interests. Isn’t that good enough?
I suppose the next evolution of this will simply be how news organizations decide to disseminate their information. Currently, many of these organizations simply create a 140-character or less teaser that links to their longer article. Perhaps that’s the best they can do. But, perhaps there’s a more Twitterific way.
