Facebook is making another move to expand its mobile presence. This time by creating a platform for developers to distribute mobile apps. Rather than a one-off app strategy, Facebook is looking to become the distribution center itself.
And I think they’re on to something here. After all, today I saw my local 7-11 offering Farmville coupons (an online game popularized on Facebook) with the purchase of slurpees and sodas. Facebook has definitely become the hub of online life. And this definitely could work.
Because as app stores get more and more full with user-created content, social media is going to be a major source of marketing these apps. And by creating a great interface for browsing along with the social connectivity inherent in Facebook, all signs point to yes for the future success of a Facebook App Store.
