Here at Windy City Strategies, we’ve been talking about the growing battle between Apple TV vs. Google TV.
Now, rumors from Samsung executives suggest that Samsung may build Android TVs based on Google’s Android system. This has been a rumor for a while and one that Google would surely be excited about becoming a reality. Because while consumer buy-in is surely Google’s number one long-term goal, manufacturer marketing can really help push this along. And if Samsung gets behind Android TVs, you can better believe they’re going to start pushing them to the masses.
And it’s important to remember that Samsung is currently the world’s largest television maker. Samsung is also the current leader in the 3D HDTV market. We’ll see if Google gets excited about that potential market eventually. But right now, it looks like Google is sticking to its roots. Not creating the content itself. But helping people find it.
