Your mom still doesn’t know what a QR code is. Unless she lives in Japan of course. And even then, maybe not. But, QR codes continue to march in the direction of the mainstream, with a rise in popularity specifically between 35 and 44 year olds.
Firstly, more and more people understand what they’re looking at when they see a weird square bar code pasted on their print piece. “Oh, that’s one of them codes I can scan with my phone.” And they are. Last year, ScanBuy reported a 1,600% increase in codes scanned. And the smartphone population is still dominated by wealthier business types (read 35-44).
They’re starting to use them. And as long as companies keep using them well, moving people from print to an interactive story, they might be here to stay.
