Today Nielson Online announced search data for March 2009. Searches grew an estimated 16.7% to 9.5 billion from the same time last year. This quick growth suggests that pay per click advertising, search engine optimization, and website Internet marketing is here to stay.
Now as expected, Google had the most search queries with 64.2%. Yahoo was a distant second with 15.8%, and MSN 10.3%. Also AOL and Ask.com came in with 3.7% and 2.1% respectively, which are a part of the Google network. If you add in the 5.8% they bring in, Google and its network are controlling 70% of the search queries.
Moving advertising dollars to Internet marketing makes sense as you want to be found when a potential customer is looking for your product or service. With newspapers, magazines, TV, and radio, you have that one shot to entice them, and if you did not then your advertising dollars are wasted. Now am I saying to not use those services? No, but you should move some advertising dollars to Internet marketing.
