“How can we make money streaming our content outside of a cable setting?” That has been the universal question the entertainment world has been asking for years now.
And it looks like Hulu might have the most convincing answer to date.
With 86% of the U.S. Internet population now watching online video, including 5.3 billion video ads this past July, nearly 20% of the ad impressions and 409 million of the ad minutes came from Hulu. Hulu, as you recall has a freemium monetization model. You can watch certain ad supported content, free of charge. Or you can watch more exclusive video content, still ad supported, for a monthly fee.
With rumors abuzz that Google’s looking to acquire Hulu (think YouTube +) it looks like they’re doing something right.
