At Windy City Strategies, we have carefully tracked the evolution of retailers giving consumers better information about where their product comes from. But, rather than stemming from the health concern of “what’s in your product”, the Free2Work mobile app helps consumers understand “who made your product?”
Developed by the Not for Sale Campaign and the International Rights Forum, the Free2Work app grades popular items based on manufacturing policies, stance on child or forced labor and overall transparency.
Future plans for the app include barcode scanning capabilities, which would be much more helpful to the average shopper. But anything to help consumers make more-informed shopping decisions should be commended.
