Imagine if Google owned Twitter. Well, that’s the situation in China right now. Except that Google’s not in charge over there. Baidu is.
And their Twitter comparison is called Baidu Talk, a new social networking service which has already racked up a million users within 3 months of its launch. That’s pretty extreme growth.
Now, Baidu Talk actually dismisses the idea of themselves as a Twitter knock-off. Rather, they aim to become a “fully-fledged social networking platform.” That’s right. The “Google” of China wants to create Facebook, too. Simply from a sizing perspective, that’s scary. From an investment perspective on the other hand, that’s simply tantalizing.
