Google has redesigned their Google Profile pages, which you probably don’t have. Not because you don’t use Google or Gmail or YouTube or any of the jillions of Google services out there that require a Google account. But perhaps you just don’t see the real benefit of having this public profile.
Here’s the benefit. If people type your name into Google, what shows up in Google’s search results? Google’s idea is for this user profile to be the first thing people see. What’s so cool about that? You get to control it. Profile picture. Photos. An Introduction. Employment information. Your Education history. And all of the links and sites you want to direct people to next.
Isn’t this what your Web site is for? Yes, and Google Profiles is for people who don’t have one, or who want a backup plan to make sure something of theirs tops the search results for their name.
