63% of Americans claim to ignore Internet ads, according to an Adweek Media and Harris Interactive survey.
Now, this may be true. But, it’s also very true that sometimes you’re looking for ads. If you’re looking to buy something, or learn about something, you might find ads very helpful. It’s probably when you’re navigating to something specific that you’ll tune the ads out.
43% of those who claim to ignore ads say they ignore banner ads the most. But it would be interesting to see if these people actually practice what they preach. Because online advertising has become a lot smarter over the past few years. Largely helpful. But for those early Internet adopters, we might have to work harder to win them back. And help them understand that advertising connects.
