SEM or Search Engine Marketing

Search Engine Marketing is one of the things we do best here at Windy City Strategies.  But sometimes, people don’t exactly know what that is.  So this blog post is to help explain it to our clients who may not know for sure.

A search engine is something going to www.google.com and putting in a search term like “Chinese Food” in the search bar, or searching for something on the web on Yahoo, or Bing.  Google is the most popular search engine, so we will use this as our example.

According to Google:  “The primary objective of any search engine is to help users find the information, products or services they’re looking for online, quickly and accurately. When the user types a word or phrase, called a query, into the search engine, a set of results that are relevant to the query is displayed.”

So- if you wanted to find a law firm in Crystal Lake- you might type in the search field “Law Firm, Crystal Lake”.

Windy City Strategies provides consultation and services in all areas of Search Engine Marketing-

The shaded area at the top of the page is called Pay-Per-Click advertising- this is a paid section, where your advertising will be posted to the top of the search engine.

The paid results are in the pink area, and the organic  (or Google selected) results are in the green area.  You will notice that there are local listings first in this green area.  That is the location portion of Google’s results- which displays local results from where your computer is searching from.

Windy City Strategies will help your business soar in the ultra-competitive web marketplace through our proven Internet marketing campaigns. We manage Google, Yahoo, and Bing accounts and we offer pay per click campaign management services as well as search engine optimization, website development, and internet marketing consultation. Facebook Earnings Increase

Facebook has had a major increase with many people using this website, but it still has to grow in both numbers of users and revenue. The major reason Facebook has seen a decrease is from people accessing Facebook on a mobile device, rather than using it on a desktop computer.

Facebook recently released their second quarter earnings for the year and the findings reveal that the number of active mobile users have increased by 51% over the last year to 819 million monthly users. Ever since Facebook updated its strategy in mobile advertising, there have been more that 1 million active advertisers, many of them including local businesses. This creates a great opportunity for not only these companies but a little bit of hope for our economy.

As for advertising, the numbers shot through the roof with an astounding $1.8 billion in revenue, which is a 61% increase from last year.  Almost half of the money that was earned from advertising, which was $1.6 billion, came from mobile advertising.

According to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, “People on average are spending more time on Facebook than ever before.” The numbers are there to prove it, showing that users spent over 20 billion minutes on Facebook during the month of June.

Are You Investing In A Google AdWords Campaign?

Gaining leads can be a difficult task for small businesses, especially when competing against more established and well known businesses. This often leaves these businesses wondering what they can do to effectively gain an audience, and grow their business.

Perhaps one of the best ways to do this is by investing in a Google AdWords campaign.

What Is Google AdWords?

Google AdWords is Google’s exclusive advertising program that allows businesses to advertise online, targeting the people that are using Google’s search engine, an its affiliates, to search for your products and services.

With a Google AdWords campaign, you must bid on keywords that are related to your products or services. When a person plugs in your keywords into the search engine, your business’s ad will appear as a sponsored link.

What Are The Benefits Of A Google AdWords Campaign?

Big or small, regardless of the size of your business, an effective Google AdWords campaign can drive traffic to your website every day, which not only increases your audience, but your profitability as well.

You only pay for results. When a business advertises on Google AdWords, they have the ability to only pay when someone clicks on their ad. This guarantees that the money that you’re paying is at least generating visits to your website, which allows for immediate interaction with customers, hopefully producing immediate results, or conversions, as well.

You can track your results. Google allows its users to track a variety of metrics. The most important of these metrics, however, is the conversions. Conversions can help to determine the effectiveness of pay per click campaigns, making it easier for businesses to track the return on their investment with a Google AdWords campaign.

You can time your ads. Advertising on Google AdWords allows you to advertise to your audience, when you want. With ad scheduling, you have the ability to show your ads to customers’ at the most ideal times, targeting them on specific days and hours, as well as increase keyword bids for specific days and times.

You can gain web traffic. Even if your website is effectively optimized to appeal to the search engines, there is the possibility that you are not ranking as high as some of your competitors. Since this can put you at a disadvantage, it is important to find a way to gain your website more traffic, which will help to increase your rankings. This is where Google AdWords can help you to draw an audience, attracting them to your business and website.

You are in control. With all of the tools, features, and options that are provided, the amount of control that you have is one of the biggest benefits advertisers can have when investing in a Google AdWords campaign. From the ability to set a budget, to being able to view and act on real-time data, as well as create tests to analyze the most effective landing page and ad copy, Google Adwords allows you to control your own advertising campaign.

It is important to realize that Google AdWords requires a lot of time and patience. If you interested in a Google AdWords campaign, or would like our Google AdWords professionals to manage your account, contact Windy City Strategies today!

Criteria For Titles On Google Search

Optimizing your titles for the best Google search results has always been a topic of conversation. Everyone is always trying to keep up with the latest trends and algorithm changes.

Google’s Matt Cutts, always has helpful tips for advertisers and in one of his most recent posts has once again given some very good advise to help increase page title optimization on Google’s search results.

A Titles Purpose

The purpose to a title is to show in the search results a concise description of the page that is also relevant to the search query. There are a few specific criteria that Google looks for:

1. A relatively short name

2. A good description

3. It’s relevant to the search query

This means if your HTML page fits those criteria, then it is a good possibility that your page will be displayed. But, if your current title does not match those criteria then often items Google will use the content on your page to dig a little deeper. They might also look at the links that point to your page as well. It is always important to keep in mind that every case is different and Google is looking for the best title that will help a user. If you want to try to control your title it is important to anticipate what a user is going to type and make sure your titles reflects not only the search query but also try to give context so the user knows what they are clicking on.

Google always offers tips for improving online search results and one way it does this is my providing detailed information in there help center. Here they tell us that each page on your site has a specific title and to keep descriptions short and concise within the allotted amount of characters. It is not a good practice to keyword stuff, repeat information or to be too broad.

Google Released New Features And Tools

Google announced today that they are going to release new features and tools for Google search ads and more.  These new features will allow advertisers to target people based on the apps that they use and how often they use them.

They also released a new “app re-engagement” campaign in AdWords. What this does is allows users to open an installed app from a search ad rather than go to the app’s landing page. They are hoping that with this new feature people will increase the use of their apps since many are so often abandoned after being downloaded.

The focus on estimated total conversions is still a high priority according to Google, and is continued to be a high priority. They have had an increase of 60% of total mobile to desktop conversions from the photo-printing site Shutterfly and have converted its keyword list completely to mobile.

Many of the new features will benefit advertisers such as tools to improve workflow, reporting and optimization. By introducing these new tools, it will allow campaign settings to be managed in bulk across campaigns. There has been a change in the automatic bidding and advertisers are now allowed to bid based on the total number of conversions.

Another exciting tool that has rolled out is a new reporting feature that allows you to make tables and charts so it is easier to graph your data. Google AdWords will also allow advertisers to run live tests on anything in a campaign including bid changes, keywords, campaign settings and more. AdWords Updates Conversion Tracking: Adds ‘Flexible Conversion Counting’

Google announced a new feature that they added to their AdWords campaigns called flexible conversion counting. This new feature will allow for advertisers to count the conversions that really matter to their business.

What Is Google AdWords?

Adwords is an advertising system in which the advertisers can bid on keywords, which will allow for their clickable ad to appear in Google’s search results. AdWords campaigns can be effective for businesses big or small, but does depend on using quality ads and bidding on the right keywords.

How Will Flexible Conversion Counting Help Your AdWords Campaign?

This feature will act as a measurement tool to better understand the value of each click that turns into results. In addition, flexible conversion counting will replace the current one-per-click column, as well as the many-per-click column, with a converted clicks column and a conversions column, enabling the advertiser to separate sales and leads and allowing them to understand the total number of conversions as well.

Google had recently introduced a line of conversion tracking features to AdWords, such as its cross-device conversions and its cross-account conversion tracking.

“We’ve been working hard on building products and features that help you better understand the value you’re getting from AdWords,” according to product manager Vishal Goenka. “With estimated cross-device conversions and cross-account conversion tracking, you’re able to more accurately measure conversions in AdWords and better understand the complex path to purchase.”

Google AdWords campaigns may not be for every business, but it is important to consult with a professional Internet marketing firm who has the knowledge and expertise to correctly and effectively do so. Understanding Product Listing Ads And Its Benefits

For many small businesses just getting started, it can be a difficult and daunting task trying to sell your product. Luckily, Google has a solution for you…Google Product Listing Ads. The advantages to Product Listing Ads are definitely worth looking into not only to increase your visibility, but your conversion as well.

How It Works

In order to have your product listed on Google, you must have a Google Merchant Center account, as well as a Google AdWords account. By linking these two accounts together, you will be able to market your product two ways, through Product Listing Ads and Product Extensions.

What is A Product Listing Ad

Product Listing Ads are search ads that will include your product’s information, including an image, price, and merchant name. These Product Listing Ads are displayed when a user searches for a relevant item in the Google Merchant Center; the results will then display the relevant ads to the user’s query.

What Are The Benefits

Perhaps the biggest benefit Google Product Listing Ads can have for your business is the traffic they will drive to your product page, as well as to your website. Since users are more inclined to click on a picture, over plain text, they will be more likely to click on your Product Listing Ad. When a user chooses to click on your Product Ad, you can guarantee this is not only a potential customer, but also your intended target audience for your business, increasing your chances of converting them and the likeliness they will visit your site again. Another benefit is that your Product Ad will appear in all relevant searches, matching it to other related terms, in turn, increasing your product’s visibility.

Product Listing Ads can benefit any business, big or small. For help or questions with your Google Merchant Center or Google AdWords accounts, or for more information on starting your own Product Listing Ad, contact our professional team at Windy City Strategies today.
